HONG KONG PARALYMPIC DAY
Objective
“Hong Kong Paralympic Day“ aims to raise public awareness about Para sports in Hong Kong, to advocate public support for moving forward the development of para sports, as well as to encourage people with disabilities to participate in sports and uncover new talents to receive further sports training.

SUMMER PARALYMPIC GAMES
1948
The official games for athletes with disabilities was first held in Stoke Mandeville, UK.
1952
Athletes from the Netherlands participated in the Stoke Mandeville Games in 1952 featuring the start of the organisation of international games for athletes with a disability.
1960
The International Stoke Mandeville Games was organized for the first time in the same country and city as the Olympic Games in Rome, Italy. The Games is considered the "First Paralympic Games" at which 400 athletes from 23 countries competed in eight sports, six of which are still included in the Paralympic Competition Programme: Archery, Athletics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Fencing. Since then the Paralympic Games have been organized every four years. The Paralympic Games have always been held in the same year as the Olympic Games.
1988
Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games were held at the same venues for the first time. Since then the Paralympic Games have always taken place at the same venues as the Olympic Games.
2000
At the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, an agreement was signed between International Olympic Committee and (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to merge the bidding process for the host city of the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games. The Beijing Paralympic Games was the first Games held under the agreement.
